The Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) was established on the 1st of January, 1986 to provide clinical facilities for the training of medical students in conjunction with the Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences (OACHS), Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) and for the provision of Tertiary Health Care Services for the people of Ogun State and the entire nation.

Prior to this date, 5th July 1985, a five-member caretaker board was constituted to transform the erstwhile State Hospital, Sagamu which had earlier been identified by the State Government as the nucleus of the then proposed State Teaching Hospital in July, 1984 to meet the demands and the enhanced functions of a Teaching Hospital.
